Crown Lift Trucks Case Study
Uplift & Transport
As part of the service we provide to Crown Lift Trucks we have been undertaking the task of uplifting and transporting 15 new TSP forklifts. TSPs are turret style trucks designed with very tall masts to access the very highest levels of racking in the very tallest of warehouses. The TSPs needed to be collected from Crown’s depots in Basingstoke, Birmingham and Warrington and delivered to various distribution centres around the UK to assist in the supply of food stuffs and pharmaceuticals.
We have been working with Crown on these types of installations since 2016. On a fairly regular basis we are asked to lift and transport 1 or 2 TSPs at a time, and to assist their engineers to upright the machines once on site. On one occasion, to meet with Crown’s customer’s requirements strict operational time restraints needed to be met. This was to prevent the installation from having an impact on the distribution centres operations.
The aim of this part of the project was to get 9 brand new TSPs collected from the depot, loaded using our lorry mounted crane, secured, transported, unloaded and installed in one day.
To do this we sent two vehicles up to Warrington on the day before the job was due to commence. The drivers parked up for the night at a nearby truckstop and first thing the following morning they arrived on site to begin the task.
The new machines were delivered in on containers one after the other and unloaded. As soon as they were able to, our drivers attached the lifting gear and craned the machines onto our two vehicles (3 machines between 2 vehicles) as swiftly and safely as possible they then transported the three machines to the customers site in Haydock before unloading them. Using the crane vehicle and a large forklift they then performed the lift and rotation of the laying down machines to make them upright. The engineers where then able to get to work on the completing the installation and inspection of the TSPs while our drivers returned for a second and ultimately third run the same as the first. At the end of the project with all 9 machines delivered and installed our drivers were able to leave site and park up before doing the same thing the following day from another depot.
Our staff are well trained to carry out time sensitive manoeuvres like this, and we’re finessed our procedures to make this a smooth and successful operation.
