Exciting news - today launches a new venture for us, with the arrival of our brand new lorry mounted crane trailer!

The trailer is a Mac semi low loader, and it has been paired with a Pesci 87.5 tonne/meter knuckleboom crane.  The semi low loader itself has outriggers and wide load marker boards, as well as hydraulic ramps to the rear.

The Pesci 875 SE is among the biggest in its class of knuckleboom cranes.  It is capable of lifting loads in excess of 15,000kg at 4.6m from its base, and loads in excess of 3,600kg at 17.45m from its base.  The crane has seven hydraulic extensions and is fully controlled by the operator using the latest Scanreco radio remote control.  Our operators are fully ALLMI qualified and certified as lorry mounted crane operators as well as slingers and signallers.

The construction of LHS 22 was done to the highest standard by City Hydraulics, the UK's main agent for Pesci lifting systems.  T...

Responding to customer demand, we have added another open deck semi low loader to the fleet.  These popular trailers are always very busy, and to meet the requirements of our customers we have increased our capacity and improved our services.

LHS T21 was made by Andover Trailers, and features a 9t electric winch with snatch block, outriggers and wide load markers as well as full width, double flip over, bi-folding ramps.  This means that as opposed to standard semi low loader ramps which stand upright when travelling, we have the option to power ours forward and lay them flat on the bed.  This reduces drag and allows us to be more aerodynamic when empty, and also allows us to carry longer items which can overhang the rear of the trailer.  Utilising the full width of the ramps, we can now safely load and carry vehicles with a centre wheel, three wheels or narrow axles.

If you're interested in using this trailer please Contact Us!

UPDATE - Thanks to our good friend Richard Hawkins of Plant Handling Limited we've now raised a whopping £550!!!  This will give 24 people somewhere safe to go this Christmas!

THANK YOU!!!

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We're big fans of Christmas here, and every year we like to raise some money for the Crisis at Christmas appeal.

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people, and they do fantastic work all year round across the country.

At Christmas they have a special appeal to give as many  homeless people as possible a safe place to go at what can be a dangerous and lonely time of the year.

So we sent out Father Christmas (Matt) and his Elf (Sandra) to spread some Christmas cheer and raise some ...

We have taken delivery today of our brand new, purpose built mega low wheelbox trailer!

Trailer LHS 27 was built to our specifications by Andover Trailers to carry tall items and vehicles with exceptionally low ground clearance.  It has curtain sides and a sliding roof so it can be loaded by crane or forklift, but it also has a full length, one piece ramp to the rear - this allows vehicles and machiines to be driven onto the trailer.

The top of the trailer bed is only 575mm from the ground, which means we can carry items up to 4.3m tall and still be under the 4.88m (16ft) height which bridges and overhead obstructions must be marked up to.  We are able to quote for loads in excess of 4.88m overall height but detailed route surveys must be carried our prior to movement - part of our HuntUsual service.

LHS 27 achieves its extra low ground clearance by having modular suspension units instead of standard axles, and if the driver needs to boost his ground clearance ( e.g. to traverse a speed bump, or hump back bridge etc.) he can do so ...

Keeping your fleet as economical and efficient as possible is a real priority for any haulier, so we're really pleased to announce the newest unit of our vehicle replacement programme - V22 LHS, a Volvo FH4.

This is the first FH4 we've had on fleet, and it boasts a 500 horsepower engine and updated interior design.  This gives more cab space overall and additional driver comforts such as a fridge freezer and bigger bed - it even allows the driver to customise the layout and design of the dashboard instruments and gauges.

The update in the design from the FH3s we had on fleet meant a tweak to our livery - our roundel makes a much bigger statement here and the design is sleeker and more modern, in keeping with the development of our business.  There are photos of our new addition on Facebook - let is know when you've seen V22 LHS out and about!

We are proud to introduce the latest addition to our fleet - trailer LHS11, our urban artic trailer, with specialist heritage livery!

We're really proud of our history, and with our 120-year anniversary next year we wanted to honour where it all started, which is why we chose this design (once again by the superb Tim Beere of Beere and Friends).

This trailer will allow us to access sites where traditional artics do not fit.  The bed length is reduced from 13.6m to 9m (allowing us to carry 18 standard pallets), and adding a rear steering axle.  This tracks smoothly from side-to-side, guided by the direction and position of the fifth wheel of the tractor unit pulling it.  Fitted with a rear roller shutter door and 1500kg capacity tail lift, this versatile trailer is ideal for deliveries to restricted access sites either through the side curtain, at dock level or to ground level via the tail lift.

If you're interested in utilising this trailer please Read More...

Following our recent round of interviews and application we're delighted to welcome three new faces to the team - Dan, Eddie and Andi!

All three have been with us for a couple of weeks now and are starting to get to know our customers.  They're all settling in really well, being looked after by our long term employees and helping us go forward with our development and expansion as a business.

Our technician Dom has decided to seek out new challenges - we thank him for his years with us and wish him the very best going forward - which means we're recruiting for a new HGV Technician.  The candidate needs to hold a full HGV C+E to enable them to present vehicles to test, and hold a current Driver Qualification Card.

If you want to apply for the post, please email us via the Contact tab or call the office on 01256 862702.

On the 14th of June we were lucky enough to be tasked with a seriously important consignment - transporting a bride to her wedding!

When Cat Fraser and her husband Guy were planning the wedding, Cat was looking for an unusual mode of transport to arrive in - after all, every bride likes to make an entrance!  So we supplied one of our Volvo FH13s and our Nissan Navara to transport the bridesmaids.  Our team made sure the vehicles were spotlessly clean, and decorated the vehicles with navy ribbon and sunflowers to match the wedding theme.

The driver of V500 LHS, Darren Morgan, and our Transport Manager Matt Hunt were pressed and dressed for the occasion, and did a brilliant job getting everyone there on time, despite a brief spell of torrential rain and a challenging entry point to the venu...

This year's Thornycroft Festival of Transport saw us launch our brand new curtainsider, in our brilliant updated livery.

The trailer is a M&G FAC27Y curtainsided model, with the capability to carry up to 26 pallets.  The overall height is 4.35m and payload is approximately 28,000kgs.  These trailers are a staple of our business, used in transporting palletised goods all across the UK and Europe.  The pillar-free roof means that we are able to transport items up to 14m long.

The 'roundel' logo that we launched on our multiuse trailer in December features prominently - for the first time ever, across the back doors.  This is a really eye-catching design and we're hugely grateful to our marketing advisor for all his help, and to the team at Lawrence David Advance Body Repairs for their fantastic work.

Many thanks again to John Bond, the Thornycroft Society and everyone in...

Every year we like to support our staff in a challenge to raise money for charity.  This year we were approached by Malcolm and John who already had a challenge in mind.  They took part in our first charity event in 2010, the London to Brighton cycle ride for the British Heart Foundation, and have been cycling ever since.

This year they are taking their hobby to a whole new scale, planning a 192km cycle to Paris!  The charity they have chosen to fundraise for is Naomi House & Jackspace - Hospices for Children and Young Adults.  As you can imagine, these are organisations that do incredible work in our local community - please visit their website for more information by clicking here.

Training has already started, and they have decided on the first weekend in May to tackle the journey.  We're really proud of them and wish them all the very best.  If you want to support them, it's incredibly easy to make a donation via their JustGiving page - Read More...

In August last year we contracted Andover Trailers to custom build a new multiuse trailer for us.  This was a big decision, as it required significant financial investment, but since the trailer went on the road in December it has been in use every day and is booked out to the end of the month!

A lot of planning has gone into the design of this trailer. Its biggest asset is its adaptability; it has curtain sides and a sliding roof, meaning ease of access for side loading as well as the capability to be loaded by overhead crane, and to carry items taller than the trailer itself.  The step frame chassis has a very low floor and two hydraulic ramps; one at the rear allowing vehicles to drive from the ground onto the trailer and one internal at the front allowing vehicles to drive from the bed up onto the neck.  This makes the trailer incredibly flexible when it comes to the load it can carry.  It also has a remote operated winch, capable of an 8 ton straight line pull, to assist in loading non-powered vehicles and/or trailers (also in use for recovering machines which have broken down).

This year we had some extra special help making deliveries as Father Christmas himself went out and met some of our customers, bringing presents and spreading Christmas cheer!

Our newest driver, Ben Eastop, donned the red and white suit for us for the whole day and really got into the festive spirit.  He went out with our Transport Manager, Matt Hunt, and a collection bucket for the Crisis at Christmas Appeal.  Our customers made them both really welcome and were hugely generous with their donations.

This being Ben's first Christmas with us, it was relatively easy to convince him that one of the drivers has done this every year, and he was a great sport when we told him at the end of the day that everyone had been in on the joke!

We're really proud of Ben's efforts to raise some money for this thoroughly worthwhile cause - Crisis is a charity dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering...

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

We continue to monitor the fuel pricing situation closely, and would like to share the following update from Quentin Wilson, via FairFuelUK:

'Tuesday's debate in the Commons on fuel prices had plenty of MPs attending, lots of strong cross-party support and even the Minister acknowledged that the nation was hurting. The best thing of all was watching party divisions melting away and the broad agreement that something needs to be done, urgently. Robert Halfon MP, who arranged the debate, proposed a freeze on all future duty rises, an inquiry into the transparency of pump pricing and a mechanism to control duty when oil surges in price. Nobody disagreed with his proposals and he was regularly interrupted by MPs from all over the country reporting that their constituents are suffering real hardship. FairFuelUK continues to push the fuel duty monster onto Westminster's radar. We're not going to let the issue go away, nor are we going to let the government blame everything on the oi...

Following the roaring sucess of last year's London to Brighton for the British Heart Foundation, our team of intrepid cyclists known as The Red Fox Squadron have chosen the Isle of Wight off-road 75km bike ride as this year's charity challenge!  The ride is on Saturday, 18th June.

Whilst the London to Brighton is a real test of pace, the Isle of Wight ride is completely off-road, making it an enormous challenge of strength and endurance.  75km off road - not something these long distance drivers are used to!

We're really grateful to everyone who has signed the petition for fairer fuel, but the issue still continues....  Please see below for an update from Quentin Wilson, from FairFuel UK.  If you haven't signed up yet, please do so.  We're continuing to campaign!

The FairFuelUK Update from Quentin Willson

Thank you for signing the FairFuelUK campaign petition. You were one of the 140,000 that helped us force the scrapping of the 5p fuel duty rise and made George Osborne become the first Chancellor for a decade to reduce duty. YOU MADE THAT HAPPEN.  Believe it or not, prices would have been 6p even more on the increasing levels we have been seeing since the Budget. So, while we managed to get the government's undivided attention to the Budget day, they have failed us since.

The miserable 1p reduction in duty was swallowed up overnight and proved that tinkering round the edges and making empty political gestures achieves nothing. In fact I'd say the government made themselves look very foolish during the budget. Fuel d...

Our fax line (01256 862190) is still working, and we will be checking our webmail as frequently as possible.  Please send us a message via fax or email (using the contact tab above) and we will get back to you as soon as possible.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are delighted to announce that our investment and replacement program continues with the purchase of a Scania R480 tractor unit.  This vehicle replaces one of our more senior tractor units that we retired last year.

As well as boasting far greater fuel efficiency this new top of the range model produces far lower carbon dioxide emissions, in keeping with our environmental policy.

We once again enlisted the services of Hanbury Riverside, who arranged all the painting and branding.  We couldn't recommend them highly enough.

This vehicle is a superb and valuable addition to our fleet.  Our longtime customers Box-It UK Limited and Laleham Healthcare have both recently cemented our working relationship with further long-term requirements, and we remain committed to providing an exceptional level of service.

The Fair Fuel UK Campaign

As a small family business we are always trying to keep our costs low whilst providing the best possible service.  Obviously the most pressing and controversial issue is the cost of fuel.

We have always monitored the cost of fuel closely, and in 2008 participated in the RHA 'Fair Play on Fuel' Rally, where we met with our then-MP, Maria Miller.  This was a successful event, and for some time the price of fuel stabilised.

Unfortunately, since then fuel prices have skyrocketed as you will have noticed at the pumps.   The Freight Transport Association (FTA) and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) are joining forces with the FairFuelUK Campaign.  The campaign aims to have the fuel duty rise planned for April scrapped and fo...

We are running a Cake Sale to raise money for Children in Need this Friday (19th).  We did this last year and completely sold out !  It seems the sight and aroma of our home made goodies is more than enough to release pennies and pounds from pockets far and wide.  So if you are passing and feel the temptation of a Cupcake, Muffin, Welsh Cake, Cookie or a slice of Bara Brith and Cheese (Yum!) too much to miss, then drop in, we'd love to see you and your money !

PLUS you could enter our raffle for a big cake and a loaf of Bara Brith.  All homemade by our very own Sarah and all for a very worthwhile cause !

A few years ago, Children In Need gave funding to the Speakeasy Advocacy in Basingstoke allowing them to fund a Young People's Advocate for 2008-11.  Sarah volunteered with their Internet Explorers group for a few years.  Internet Explorers is really important – it’s a social group for teenagers with Aspergers, and does brilliant work.   It means...

As part of our ongoing investment into the business, we have recently purchased two Scania R480 tractor units to replace two of our senior fleet.  These new top of the range units, offer greater fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions than their predecessors and are another step closer to achieving our environmental objective.

The units were completley stripped and repainted by Hanbury Riverside who also carried out the branding and decals. They have been finished to the highest standard.  The livery gives the trucks real curb appeal and is a moving example of our brand values.

Derrick Hunt said 'These new tractor units were a significant investment for us, but demonstrate the air of positivity within our business as well as our continued commitment for growth and the future of L Hunt & Sons.  It was also an opportunity for us to promote our established d...

Team Hunt complete the London to Brighton 2010

A team from L Hunt & Sons took part in the annual London to Brighton Bike Ride today to raise money for charity.  Nearly 30,000 cyclists took part in the ride which is thought to be Europe's largest charity cycling event.  Last year, the event raised £4.1m for The British Heart Foundation.

Team Hunt started the 54 mile (87km) journey from Clapham Common in south London, making their way (at varying speeds) toward the coast at Brighton.  The team completed the ride in a respectable 6 hours, which would have been 4hr 30mins if not for a hold up due to an unfortunate casualty (not one of ours).

We are very pleased to announce the release of our new web presence and brand strategy.  As part of our on going investment into our business, we commissioned local brand and marketing communications specialists, Tim Beere and Luke Stratton, to design and build us a new website.  Built to the very latest web standards, it has been built from the ground up to meet the changing needs and requirements of our business, being totally scaleable and manageable in house.  The site utilises some powerful tools that will help us grow our business including a Forum, Social and Business Networking functionality as well as being completley search engine optimised.

Far exceeding the brief set, Tim brought us his wealth of expertise and creativity from a career in International brand management, devising a differentiating brand strategy for us that really captures the essence of our business.  I don't think there is anything quite like it in our industry, it really sets us apart.  It is so much more than a slogan, it is a way of working and a culture we embrace here at L Hunt & Sons, it transcends everything we do.

Tim said 'It has ...
