Community pride.

As one of the longest standing haulage contractors in the area, certainly in Basingstoke, we pride ourselves on our relationship with the local community.

For over 100 years, we have brought prosperity to the local economy, but we are conscious that there is always a need to do more and to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  We are proud that our staff choose to take active roles within community projects and raise funds for a variety of charities.

Gordon Hunt continues a long standing relationship with the local council and was Chairman of the Parish Council following his retirement from L Hunt & Sons in 2006.  Gordon's father, Harry, joined the Council with Gordon on his retirement from the business in the 1980's.  Working so closely with the parish council means that we are involved in supporting local life such as the village hall, fetes and flower shows, strengthening our good relationship with our neighbours, whilst minimising the impact we have on them be keeping traffic and noise to a minimum.  We also continue to support our local village Post Office which, we feel, is essential in maintaining the heartbeat of the community.

Our staff are all really motivated to raise money for charity; since 2010 we have undertaken an annual charity drive, with the following events:

  • In 2010, a team from L Hunt & Sons joined the London to Brighton bike ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation.  In doing so, they raised £1,217.05 for charity, whilst also burning a few calories and having immense fun in the process.  Click here to read more.
  • In 2011 they decided to challenge themselves even further by doing the British Heart Foundation Isle of Wight 75km off road ride, raising more than £400.00.  This proved to be a real test of endurance so we're really proud of everyone who took part.  You can see photos on our Facebook page.
  • 2012 saw everyone looking for a change of pace, so we supported the fantastic Movember cause, raising £625.00 for vital men's health causes.  This is a project that has been close to the hearts of many of our drivers, but I can't say that their facial hair was missed afterwards!  There are some great photos on our Facebook page or on the news area of our website.
  • In 2013 we raised money for the Crisis at Christmas campaign - we had a bit of a laugh with our newest employee, Ben, and managed to raise a phenomenal £165 for Crisis - more details can be found here.
  • 2014's efforts supported some really worthwhile local and national charities.  John and Malcolm are cycled from LeHavre to Paris and back for Naomi House Children's Hospice, and Sarah took up running to do the Race for Life for Cancer Research for the first time!  We also held a Family Fun Day to raise money for Hampshire and Aisle of Wight and Essex Air Ambulances, raising more than £800.00.
  • 2015 saw us return to the Crisis at Christmas campaign, and we broke our record to raise a fantastic £550.00!
  • So far in 2016 we have been delighted to help support the North Hampshire Medical Fund by transporting beds for their Bed Push, and will once again raise money for homeless people at Christmas.

In addition to this, our team has cycled the Basingstoke Big Wheel for St Michael's Hospice numerous times, and we've had several bake sales for Children in Need and Comic Relief.

We have a great team spirit here at L Hunt & Sons which means we have a positive impact on our community.  You will see this whenever you meet any member of our staff, always going the extra mile to help others.
